Response to "Thug Life"

As we saw in the documentary "Thug Angel"about the life of Tupac Shakur, he dramatically changed from a wide-eyed, innocent and talented young man into an international superstar and "thug" rapper.
What do you make of this transition in personality? What do you think were the causes? How does this documentary make you feel about about such a controversial figure?

  1. i think it because his life as a rapper involved him in gang life. i think he is interesting because he was so hyped up.

  2. What I make of this transition in personality is that he lost his innocent behavior quickly. The causes was him moving to Califoria. That is when he became less innocent and more thug life in behavior. This documentary shows that anyone as bright, innocent and talented as him could change from their surroundings.

  3. What I make of this transition is that in personality he changed very dramatically. He was a very smart and talented man but when moving to California he turned into a thug. The causes where probably his surroundings and what he had to do and to be to fit in with all other rappers. It makes me think about how easy it seems to change without noticing it yourself, due to your surroundings.

  4. It is amazing how a such a smart, articulate, and spiritual man could get caught up in all the gang violence and the "Thug Life". I like Tupac because unless some rapper Tupac has meaning behind every line in every rap tha he wrote. He just wanted equal rights for everyone. In his early life he studied and became educated on the subject of the equal rights movement. Even when he began getting into gangs and other things, he never lost his morals. Like even when he shot a police officer it was in self-defense when he was in Atlanta and the police were taking advantage of a African American man. But, the sad thing is that a lot of people look at it as just another rapper shooting cops. People need to actually listen to the lyrics of his raps and they will understand what he was all about.

  5. I think it's interesting that Tupac eventually began illustrating himself as one of the stereotypes that he didn't approve of when he was younger. It seems like his music followed his life... as he was younger he was more interested in politics rather than thug life, and so were his lyrics. But as he became older, and money took over, his rap took on a different attitude. I respect how Tupac seemed always to speak his mind without hesitation, and how he made his music appeal to people dealing with life in the ghettos.

  6. Obviously I grew up watching/listening to Tupac so most of the things we were watching i already knew. He was (and still is) the only rapper I've ever seen live the life he spoke; like he honestly didn't give a damn about most things like the police and law, he did whatever he wanted to and that's why i admire him so much. He's by-far the best rapper of all-time and his soul will live on forever. Growing up an African-American from the 70's-90's was really rough and Shakur had to face adversity; from going to jail for false-rape; to shooting a cop from self-defense but being looked at bad as a public-image after. To me when people say "he changed once he moved to California" hell yea he changed, everyone changes through time especially moving from state to state like he did and what he said about those cops was right and every time me and my brother look at that interview on youtube we just laugh because people never really understood the man (mainly because of his color) but we definitely did. He had no fear in his life and that's one person I'll always look up to! R.I.P. Tupac Shakur

  7. I think that he changed because of the people who he was around. He changed because he began hanging with thugs and they did bad things. Obviously when he started rapping he was very young and he was around these guys doing bad things which influenced him to become the man he was till the day he died. I personally think that even though he changed his morals he began with still stuck with him and it shows in several of his songs. This documentary showed me he was a good person with good intentions even though sometimes he showed otherwise.

  8. I thought the movie was very interesting. It showed a drastic change from Tupac Shakur after he moved to places where many people did drugs. He started out as a smart ambitious person and changed into a crazy one. I felt like he was still smart but he just didn't advocate his thoughts as well as the beginning. I think these changes occurred beacuse he was doing drugs and he was in a neighborhood were there were gangs and violence. I also think he didn't have the support he needed. This made me think about how, even though he was a role model for many people Tupac was having many problems at home that he didn't admit or get help for. I think that he could have been helped if he had admitted his problem.
