Gabe Ferreira-Music Video Ideas

One of my favorite songs to listen to is "Till I collapse" by Eminem  because this song seems to cheer anyone on when their down. What I was planning on doing was I would make a music video with different shots of sports teams here at Watertown High School including football and field hockey etc. While this whole video is going on, I would like to have the song playing in the background. I would like to start the video with a long shot of the high school and then after I would have team high lights playing of this year and previous years. Some shots I would include would be rack focus, tracking, some low key lighting, a lot of sound and some fade as well. I would not need much equipment because most of the video would just be getting high lights and editing them in but I would also need a camera. What I would use the camera for would be to do some tracking and long shots.

------------------------------

The idea for my second video came to me while I was watching music videos on t.v. "Don't Stop Till' You Get Enough" by Michael Jackson came on. I thought to myself, this video isn't that hard to re-shoot. So what I came up with was that I would have a tux and bow-tie like Michael Jackson did in his video. Something I will be doing differently is that instead of just having me in front of the green screen dancing, I would also get some different shots of me dancing in public places to make this video even funnier.  I would not need a lot of equipment just a studio with a green screen and camera, and also a camera so I can do my out of school filming.

Film Terminology Powerpoint

Growing up online.

After watching the PBS video Growing Up online I don't feel that I relate to this video because I have never gotten bullied online or been so focused on being online. But when I was younger I did play a lot of online games but I don't feel like I have grown up a lot online because as a kid I was very active so I didn't find myself on the computer until later at night when I would be on AIM talking to my friends. I think that digital media is effected on education because kids are so use to being online and they have the computer in front to keep them entertained but when they come into school and have to listen to teachers all day it makes them want to listen less. Using media to much can be unnecessary when trying to do simple task like writing an essay. Writing an essay can easily be done by hand but kids have become so lazy that typing an essay is easier because the computer fixes their mistakes so kids are not learning as much as they would hand writing an essay. I think kids so young shouldn't have a computer in their room because this can lead to hiding personal life that may not be appropriate even when kids get older and they use facebook. Post things online that they would never say to someone, going on facebook and posting comments meant towards someone would never be said if their computer wasn't in front of them. Over all I think media has made an impact on some lives but others I do not.

Anti-Smoking

After viewing all of the clips at http://www.the84.org/filmshorts/2010/anti-smoke I think that my favorite clip was Anti-Smoke- Northampton High School

Anti-Smoke - Northampton High School from The 84 on Vimeo.

I liked the creativity and unique feel to this video and I thought it was interesting that it featured clay animation.

I also liked Tobacco Attack

http://vimeo.com/10238013

and Chewing Tobacco - Sharon High School

http://vimeo.com/10237493

My least favorite video was Ballin or Fallin because nothing really stood out about it.

Growing Up Online

The Documentary called "Growing Up Online" is a film on the teenagers of this generation who use the internet on a daily basis. The documentary also shows how media effects this generation's youth. I can relate to this documentary because I usually use the computer daily and when I use the computer, I go on the internet. A lot of kids shown on the documentary use the internet to express themselves. These kids hid how they felt from their parents and used the internet as a sort of escape from reality. I don't use the internet to express myself but I'll use it to find things that are interesting to me weather its browsing through online catalogs or just searching for information. Ways that I have "grown up online" are just learning new things or having new ideas from little research I do while going on the internet. With the influx of digital media technology, I believe it should be used more in education because students might find it easier since they're dealing with a computer and a lot of students now use computers all the time. If I didn't have the internet growing up, I believe that I wouldnt know much compared to what I know now. I think the internet also exposed a lot more things to me then what I would have been exposed to if the internet was not around. I watched the video Growing Up Online and I am also online a lot of the time. I have always gone online but now I am starter about what i put up for others to see. The internet helps us learn but can also distract us from our works. People shouldn't use the internet for pornography or hacking into peoples systems. You can get into a lot of trouble by just clicking a button. The internet is a very addicting device and people should be very careful using it.

Hello, its Gabe Ferreira and today I will be talking about the 84's not-smoking videos. I have seen most of them and have seen my good share of good ons and bad ones. These following ones I chose as my favorite.

Im' Alive - Lexington High School

This one caught my attention because I really enjoyed how the students used the phrases "I smell good" and "I breath well" to put in their video and I know that many people will think twice about smoking. Some other videos that I enjoyed watching was called Tobacco Attack-By Holyoke High School

My other one was Evolution Smoking-By Sharon High school. I liked this one because it really captures the idea that so many people in the world hide smoking by giving the audience a beautiful picture on screen, but when they're off its not so great.

There were many good ones but there also was some ones that were really bad. The first one I saw that was really bad was called "If your black inside"-by Holyoke High school. I thought this one was terrible because it seems like the people in this video did this last second. The last one that I thought was really bad was "Tobacco does that?"-Holyoke High School.

I feel like due to the technology we have today, the videos should've been so much better. After all the videos I've seen, I still think Watertown did the best!!    -Gabe Ferreira

Anti Smoking Ads

The website www.the84.org, is hosting a film contest called the 2010 Film Shorts Contest: Viewers Choice Awards. The short films are from students in different high schools around Massachusetts, that are against smoking. They are trying to make the best anti-smoking commercial. The three videos that I thought were the best are...

Tobacco Attack

Tobacco Attack - Holyoke High School from The 84 on Vimeo.

I thought this video was one of the best because the kids are shown just sitting around being bored and having nothing to do. When one of them pulls out the "sin sticks" or pack of cigarettes, they all get excited which is what I think actually happens in reality. I think some kids use the act of smoking cigarettes as something to do when nothing is really going on and thats not the best idea since they're really bad for your health.

These two links here are the videos I thought were really good as well...

Chewing Tobacco - Sharon High School

http://vimeo.com/10237493

Tap - Lexington High School

http://vimeo.com/10261831

In my opinion, I don't believe this was the best contest because a lot of the entries were not very good videos. The videos weren't good in quality and some of them didn't make much sense. This video is what I thought was the worst one...

Ballin or Fallin - Holyoke High School from The 84 on Vimeo.

The person who edited this video didn't do the best job or was just inexperienced, the filming was also pretty bad.

The top 2 that I like are shown below. I like them because they either made me laugh, but on the other hand, still educated me. The first one had 2 kids that did an awesome job on. They took it seriously unlike the other videos where the kids would just goof off and made fun of this whole situation. The second one was hilarious. Its this crazy dude going up to these 4 kids and grabs a cigarette out of their hand and smacks it to the ground. I chose this as my second because it made me laugh.
Smoking Kills - Lexington High School

My favorite from WHS is Before and After: Affects of Smoking (Also shown below). I like this video because it has a story line to it. Pretty much a good looking girl, that has good boyfriend and she smokes. Before she knows it, she becomes old and the boyfriend dumps her.

Before and After: Affects of Smoking from The 84 on Vimeo.

Anti-Smoking videos

There is a competion In Massachusetes for the best anti-smoking videos from high school students. There are many good anti-smoking videos posted up on www.the84.org and there are some really bad ones as well. I picked my favorite 3, Here is my favorite one  out of all of them and there are links to the others one including my least favorite
One of my favorite videos was called Tobacco Attack from Holyoke High school-

Tobacco Attack - Holyoke High School from The 84 on Vimeo.I like this one because it has some humor in it and it shows what smoking does to you, your always going to be coughing. It's also good because they looked really lazy and thats what smokers are, lazy

The next video also is from students in Holyoke High school, A side Never Seen

The reason I like it is because they did a really good job and it seems real other than the ciggarette pack talking. But it shows people are going to try and convince you to smoke, you just got to stay strong and say NO!

The next video was funny. Students from Masconomet high school did this one called Somebody is watching me

The reason why i liked this one is because you dont' know who could be watching you when you are smoking or doing anything bad. And i also found it hilarouse because it compares to the geico commercials and i love the geico commercials

My least favorite video was by students from Lexington High school, it is called Forgotten Belongings

I did not like this one at all because it has nothing to do with smoking. The forgotten belongings has nothing to do with anti-smoking,i did not understand this video at all

2010 Film Shorts Contest

After looking at all the clips that have been entered into the contest to stop smoking I have picked my favorite three videos and a video I thought wasn't made well.
My First choice was made by Sharon High School posted below:

Evolution: Smoking - Sharon High School from The 84 on Vimeo.

I picked this as my favorite video because I thought that it really showed us what we don't see what people go through when they smoke. This video really creates the image that even though celebrities in magazines are beautiful, we don't see the struggles that they go through on a daily bases because they smoke. Make-up and fake smiles may hide that pain but smoking does have a big affect.

Below are my next top favorite two videos:

Tobacco does that and more..

Am I going to smoke when I grow up?

These are links to my other two favorite videos. I liked these video's because I liked the message and the story that was made. I thought the people who did this video spent time on it and thought it throughly

A video that I thought wasn't made well was :

The Sink

I didn't like this video because I thought the person who made this video didn't think through it and I didn't really get a message while watching it.
