  1. I'm not surprised that Shanghai has shown such high test scores, because I read somewhere that they have shorter vacations and take more time to focus on school in China than in most other countries. The fact that the US is somewhat low-ranked doesn't bother me too much because I know that kids here have more opportunities to do extra-curricular activities here and have chances to gain knowledge beyond school subjects like math, science and language. The fact that students in China are more serious about their school work is great but it takes away from other opportunities that many kids have here.

  2. Shanghai does so well on test scores because China puts an emphasis on school work. For kids school is their number one priority and the government wants it to be that way. China has better test scores than the U.S. because although the U.S. wants better scores for students, they are not as strict as China when it comes to testing. Being lower than China in test scores doesn't bother me because there are more opportunities in the U.S. that don't require high test scores and become successful in other things.

  3. It is very believable that China had such high scores. When you hear about China's schools and teaching ways, they are very strict and mostly focus on education. Unlike in the US, which lets kids goin many activities like sports and after school programs, China takes a great deal out on school work. The fact that the US stands behind China does not bother me. The US has many more oppurtunities available than China, and it is much harder to get to the top.

  4. China has always been at the top regarding school related matters. They a huge emphasis on school there and students don't do other things that kids do in the U.S. No matter what the kid wants to do they have to do well in school and testing. The U.S has mad more options available and sports and extra curricular activities are a huge part of most kids lives. Also kids may be good in school but panic in tests and bomb them. I feel like kids are pressured and almost forced in China and in the U.S we have more freedom to make independent choices.

  5. I think America should live up to the learning standards of the 30 other countries above us because we don't want to be behind in our education. I also think it would be better for us if America had the top learning scores than all the other countries in the world. I think the U.S has lower test score than Shanghai because the U.S. takes more vacations than Shanghai, and is not as focused on school as it should be. Another reason as to why is because China doesnt really focus on sports as much as the U.S. does, they are more focused on learning and education.

  6. I think that this study isn't fair because all the other country's were tested throughot their whole country while, China was only tested in one city in which they could have put smart students, or not given the test to poorer students. Also, sudents in America have a lot more going on, unlike China who all students do is go to school and study. In America kids play sports, join clubs, have jobs and many other things. And maybe these things may lower the test scores a little, I feel that the extracurricular activities give students life skills that you simply can not obtain in a classroom.
